Industry-academia Collaboration

When implementing corporate social responsibility, Novatech puts people first and cares for society. In recent years, Novatech has adopted a strategy of combining our core expertise with social welfare to offer students comprehensive experience in engineering, have employees participate in various philanthropic activities, and maintain harmonious relationships with the communities. At Novatech, social participation involves three dimensions, namely, industry-academia collaboration, corporate volunteering and social prosperity. By interacting with groups in different fields, we expect to build a social sustainability culture across the organization. In the future, continuous efforts will be made to exert our volunteers' influence to fulfill social prosperity; as an advocate of humanitarianism, we will also make good use of our core technologies and experiences to build a wonderful environment and society. In 2019, the expenditure on industry-academia collaboration amounted to NT$207,000, and that on philanthropic activities totaled NT$52,150 (excluding donations made by employees and proceeds from charity sales); 22 employees volunteered in community activities for a total of 120 hours.

Industry-Academia Collaboration and Internship

In the face of the ever-changing technology industry trends, technological innovation and resource integration are the key to business sustainability, and talent is the driving force for change. Novatech attaches great importance to the cultivation of the youth and constantly recruits outstanding talent. To recruit and retain talent, we have a comprehensive recruitment system in place, including campus recruitment, internship agreements with colleges and universities, internal referral, and job banks. We implemented "academic research collaboration" and "internship programs" in 2019. In point of academic research collaboration, the Company works with academic institutions to draw up various research and development programs that can bring new ideas to the Company and further improve our technical services. On the part of internship programs, students are provided with an opportunity to obtain practical work experience and expertise in engineering and develop their abilities to make judgments, work as a team, and complete assignments efficiently and independently. With "learning by teaching" as the original intention, Novatech integrates the resources of the industry and academia to maximize the benefits, creating competitiveness for the next generation. In 2019, the Company cooperated with local academic institutions on four technological research and development programs and internship programs and one industry-academia innovation program. The internship programs amounted to NT$207,000.

Key Project - Internship Program

The Company provided internship programs for the students to learn the business practices and the latest engineering trends and applications and to develop their abilities to make judgments and work as a team. During internship, the students gained hands-on experience from training courses on occupational safety and expertise. Such training courses included "on-site work safety analysis," "hot work instructions," "safety devices under the Rules for Occupational Safety and Health Facilities," "regulations governing workplace safety," and "risk controls such as behavior based safety observations."

The internship programs were centered on the main business activities of the Company. In addition to absorbing knowledge and application of environmental engineering, the students were trained to complete assignments efficiently and independently; the environmental awareness was also introduced to guide the students through the idea and study of a circular economy. By combining theory with practice, we expected the students to encapsulate the spirits of sustainable development and devotion to work.

Internship Testimonials

Chien-Tung Shen from the Department of Occupational Safety and Health, China Medical University

I'm delighted to participate in the internship program at Novatech for two months. Construction on site is a mirror of what I have learned. Although it took some time for me to apply what I have learned at work, colleagues were very willing to help. It has been very rewarding and will be a great help for my future employment. When observing construction workers work on site, I was obligated to give some safety instructions to them. Therefore, how to communicate with them is very important. The art of speaking is not just about making a point fully; more importantly, it is about how to say it without upsetting people so that construction can continue smoothly. Although construction workers sometimes complained about factory policies and some even worked secretly during the lunch break, they were very cooperative most of the time.

I am very grateful to many colleagues during my internship at Novatech. Ya-Chun took me to the construction site to conduct supervision and instructed me on various matters that I should pay attention to during construction; Ya-Hui would share her experience and fill me in with industrial safety regulations that I should know of. She would also spend time reviewing reports for me; Yi-Hsuan provided me a lot of assistance with documentation and day-to-day operations; Chin-Yi and Chun-You has shown much tolerance towards me for two months; Liang gave me a chance to participate in this internship program and has agreed to act as the school's contact in the future. Finally, I feel an immense gratitude to my cousin (Shao-Hsi) for introducing me to Novatech. Without him, I would not have participated in this internship program.
